CHALLENGE: TO CREATE A SONG BUILT ON A SUGGESTED TITLE
Step 1: Facebook Competition
I held a competition on Facebook for FB friends and family. Anyone interested could put forward a song title and I would attempt to write and perform a song within a week.
Step 2: Pick the Winner and Get to Work
The chosen title was "Hours By The Window", suggesting a ballad rather than a rock 'n' roll number. I set to work, first writing the rough lyrics and then seeing where the lyric pushed the melody and chords.
Step 3: Play and Record Piano and Vocals
I used a mixture of analogue and digital equipment to play, sing and record the track. As I was working to a deadline, I aimed for a rough mix.
Step 4: Tidy Everything Up, Check with Collaborator, Upload Track
I rejigged the lyrics, did some editing and got a mix I was happy with. My collaborator a-ok'ed it and it was uploaded onto the interweb.
